Une expérience unique en son genre. Autant vous prévenir. Tout droit sortie de ma principauté, je ne connaissais pas le concept de “speakeasy”, des bars/clubs considérés comme secrets situés dans des endroits insolites. Après moultes recherches (mouais), j’ai découvert qu’on emploie cette appellation pour évoquer la Prohibition, période pendant laquelle l’alcool était interdit aux Etats-Unis. Les clients devaient donc parler doucement pour commander leur consommation. De nos jours, tous les new-yorkais vont dans des “speakeasy”. Inutile de chuchoter, tout le monde en sort de nos jours bourrés. Le lieu est en fait ce qu’il y a de plus cool. Danser au milieu d’un barbier, c’est quand même inhabituel. Plus à l’intérieur c’est ambiance feutrée, atmosphère cosy, bibliothèque et compagnie…et des centaines de gens qui se trémoussent sur le nouveau Daft Punk ‘Get Lucky’. Petit conseil, réservez le “carré VIP” au fond du bar, 3m2 dans lesquels vous pouvez danser et/ou discuter entre potes. Pratique, car proche du DJ (pour special requests) et proche des toilettes. Qui dit mieux?!

The Blind Barber is what New Yorkers call a “speakeasy”. From my dear principality, I have never heard before of a ” speakeasy “: a bar / club that is considered a secret and situated in unusual places. After a little research (many thanks to Wikipedia), I discovered that “speakeasies” became part of society’s vocabulary during the Prohibition, a period during which the alcohol was forbidden in the United States. Customers had to whisper their orders if it involved alcoholic beverages. Nowadays, every New Yorker knows that the best drinks and dance floors can be found usually in “speakeasies”. No need to whisper anymore. I found that place to be the coolest concept and most especially unique. When customers are asked to walk through a barber’s shop, and through an immaculate door at the back, you will find it most amusing. Inside the club is an old bar and cosy couches, a library and hundreds of people wiggling to Daft Punk’s latest hit ‘Get Lucky’. Small advice: reserve the VIP area at the end of the bar, 3m2, where you can dance and / or discuss among friends. Practical because you are close to the DJ (for special requests) and close to the toilets. Who can top that?
