Tom Dixon c’est : un designer anglais, un mentor, le genre de génie qui incite à se surpasser, la personne pour qui vous aimeriez créer 2000 concepts à la minute juste pour lui en parler. Une fois on m’a raconté que plus jeune il avait échangé deux chaises contre une dent en or chez le dentiste. Il est complètement fou et 100% Anglais. Autodidacte, Tom dessine la « S » Chair pour Cappellini, puis est nommé à la tête de Habitat. Dix ans plus tard il se consacre totalement à son incroyable entreprise implantée à Portobello Dock. Allez-y, vous y trouverez : son studio de création, un showroom, un salon de thé, et un restaurant. Dernière information en date : l’ouverture de son premier hôtel, Sea Containers, sur les rives de la Tamise. Le bar du rooftop est incroyable et bien évidemment toujours plein. Autour de ses bureaux (petit tour de quartier) se trouvent ceux de Innocent : baby-foots, bars à jus et sols recouverts de gazon, ça a l’air super-cool d’y travailler ! De l’autre côté du pont se trouve une tour d’eau que Tom a récemment converti en maison contemporaine. Vous pouvez louer une chambre sur Airbnb pour 155€ la nuit. Expérience unique ! Enfin, à 5 minutes à pieds se trouve Retrouvius, un super magasin de design qui est spécialisé dans la récupération d’objets. Ils vendent le carrelage anciennement utilisé pour recouvrir le sol de l’aéroport de Heathrow, des bancs d’école, des fauteuils de cinéma, etc. Très bon goût et matériel de grande qualité.

Go see it, you will find: his studio, a showroom, a tea house, and a restaurant. Last information to date: the opening of his new hotel, Sea Containers, on the shores of the river Tames. The rooftop bar is amazing and obviously, always full. Nearby his office (little neighbourhood tour), you’ll find Innocent‘s offices as well: fuss ball, juice bar, and floors covered in fake grass. Seems like lots of fun to work there! On the other side of the bridge is a water tower that Tom recently converted into a contemporary house. You can actually book a room there on Airbnb for 155€ a night. Unique experience! Finally, only a five minute walk from there, you will find Retrouvius, a great design store specialized in recuperating old objects and giving them a second life. They sell the old tiling used at Heathrow airport, school benches, cinema seats, etc. Very good taste and great quality products.
